Alumina, chemical Al2O3. It is a kind of high hardness compound. Its melting point is 2054 ℃, boiling point is 2980 ℃, and it can be ionized at high temperature. It is often used to make refractories. It is also called bauxite in mining, ceramics and material science.
Properties: insoluble white solid, odorless, tasteless, extremely hard, easy to absorb moisture without deliquescence (non hygroscopic after burning). Amphoteric oxide, soluble in inorganic acid and alkaline solution, almost insoluble in water and non-polar organic solvent; relative density (d204) 4.0; melting point 2050 ℃.

Uses: used as analytical reagent, dehydration of organic solvent, adsorbent, organic reaction catalyst, abrasive, polishing agent, raw material for aluminum smelting and refractory.
